gravatar - online identity

Comments

...80x80 user icons are the beginning of trust? How ridiculous.
whats different between Gravatar and openid or is this just another openid service ?
Well, the only measure of "trust" OpenID provides is that a person has been authorized to identify from that particular OpenID. That's it. By itself, it doesn't guarantee that only one person can identify with that ID. Or that ID doesn't com from a spammer. Or anything approaching a real measure of trust.

Gravatar only lets you know what a given person's email's icon is. That's about it. Reading their implementation, you have to verify that the person's email on your own, if you so choose.

And it's just an icon! I'm from LJ, icons make me trust others not a whit. They're just a picture someone has attached to their account. It doesn't have to represent their "face", and neither does Gravatar's.
thanks thats helpful
are there any openid services you would recommend ?
https://www.myopenid.com/ should suffice. It's run by a company with active involvement in the development of the OpenID spec and is ahead of the curve in features.
thanks i'll sign up
